Interesting take on Walt Disney World from Margene Pappas, mega award winning and still in demand retired band director, Tucson, AZ, who also happens to be my sister and was on to Florida long before me:

“I cherish the memories of marching with my Oswego, Illinois, high school band down Disney’s Main Street and hearing the cheers from people as we went by. I did those trips in 1995, 1999, 2003, and 2006. One of the best experiences for bands at Walt Disney World is the You’re Instrumental program. The band sight reads music from one of the animated features and they are trained in how professional musicians are expected to perform and play perfectly the first run through. Those who run the clinics are always engaging and use humor to keep the students entertained. Students walk away with a video of the band playing the background music to Aladdin or one of the other famous animated features and a great understanding of what it means to be a professional musician.”

Who knew? WDW provides music education for bands from all over the country, not to mention FUN. Here’s me and my big sis contemplating our futures in Florida.
